This is a poem that was shared with me in a class I took:
There is some kiss we want with our whole lives,
the touch of spirit on the body.
Sea water begs the pearl to break its shell
and the lily, how passionately it needs some wild dark.
At night I open the window and ask the moon to come and press its face against mine.
Breathe into me….Breathe into me.
Close the language door and open the love window,
the moon won’t use the door, only the window.
Close the language door and open the love window,
the moon won’t use the door, only the window.
Let these words flow over you, feel them, drink them in. They are exquisite! Just feel, don’t think. Feel what it is like to be kissed so passionately that it stirs your soul and we are taken somewhere outside of ourselves. Feel the sea water flowing over the shell begging, pleading for it to break open, to reveal its beauty. The work the sea must do to get to its beauty. It is not an easy task and yet the sea does not relent for it knows the beauty contained within the shell. The shell is not the truth. The shell hides the truth and the true treasure is what lies within and it is willing to do anything to get to it. There is a desire there that one can feel. It is fierce. The lily dances, searching for some wild dark. It needs someplace to be free, where it can be it self, unconfined. Feel it. Breathe it. Feel the moon giving you life as it breathes into you. Feel the moment it touches your face and you become alive. It is moving and freeing when we allow ourselves to feel, not think.
What if we lived our entire lives like this? What if instead of relying on thinking, we relied on feeling and we used this to guide us through our lives? Wouldn’t life be more vibrant and exotic, maybe even less complicated? We would be guided by our feeling on who would be a good friend, spouse, teacher etc. We would instinctively know who is our enemy and our friend, when something is a good deal or not such a great deal. Our eternal thinking would no longer get in the way. We would be released from the constant self talk that goes on in our heads that many times serves no purpose other than keeping us stuck, keeping us from moving forward for we are always looking for the next room to go through to gain more information, to make a decision. Feel, breathe. What feels right? Does it feel right to love, to trust, to forgive, to laugh and to believe? When we feel, we are no longer hemmed in. Things come to us naturally and we are just who we need to be in that moment in time. We are the pearl that has broken its shell. We are trusting who we are and no longer in need of a shell. We are free to be who we are. Free to speak what we believe, love who we choose, laugh a great belly laugh because that is what feels right to us in that moment. We feel and know our worth and this knowing breathes into us, righting us, letting us know that we are called to feel, not think.
When feeling we must be willing to embrace the ugly as well. We must open ourselves up and be willing to feel the hurt and keep on feeling. We cannot have happy without sad, love without hate, joy without despair, laughter without sorrow. All of these feelings have their equal and opposite half, they fit together. When we embrace one, we must be willing to feel the other or we are not truly alive and open to all that life has to offer. If we are to feel our way through life this means accepting all of it which makes us deeper, richer people. Feel this and breathe this in for one moment. Is this who you want to be? Don’t think, just feel and when you have felt it, truly felt it and allowed that feeling to wash over you and work its way into you, let that feeling be your guide. Don’t think, feel.
